The Geometry of Resonance

In the book Solar System Dynamics by C.D. Murray and S.F. Dermott, chapter 8.2 discusses the geometry of resonance. On page 325 they illustrate the paths of a test particle in a rotating frame. These test particles are shown at the 2:1, 3:2, and 4:3 first-order interior resonances and the 3:1, 5:3, and 7:5 second-order interior resonances.

The following simulations recreate the paths shown in diagrams (a) and (b) on page 325.

(You need to have the program Gravity Simulator installed on your computer first. Click Here to download Gravity Simulator.)

These simulations are linked together into a slide show. You need to download all of them into the same folder or you will get a File Not Found error message.
