Klemperer rosettes
03/15/11 at 10:51:01

Some time ago I discoverd the special orbital pattern called Klemperer rosettes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klemperer_rosette.
Most of them are dynamically stable .
Hereby a simulation of a rosette consisting of 6 Earth sized planets around the sun at 1 AU initially , equally distributed at 60
It is amazing to see how small inacurate initial conditions for positions and velocity give a pattern of oscillatiing motion , somehow repeating , but not exactly periodic .
The sim was run for 5000 years , each frame having 10 years .

Omitting the planet at 180 , thus reducing the system to 5 planets gives the following result :

Reducing the number of planets to 3 at 0, 120 and 240  gives a resonating alternating pattern
