Title: Stable sub-satellite in a earthlike solar system
Post by abyssoft on 09/06/13 at 11:51:52

Using the moon accretion simulation and
adding a second accretion set around the outer satellite once the sim had settled down
I have a system where earth has 3 moons such that moon 2 is orbited by moon 3.
so far this has been stable for a long time.
I'm using the RK4 integrator to run on this. Time steps are typically between 16 and 32 with rare dips to 8.

My guess is that from a purely gravitational perspective this would be indefinitely stable...
however once we introduce tidal mechanics into play, not currently simulated by GS, this would not be stable.
